CHARLOTTE — Police have arrested a suspect after a man was found shot to death outside a north Charlotte house Friday evening.
Officials said 27-year-old Tyquis Jenkins has been charged with the murder of 30-year-old Nathaniel Newberry.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to Azalea Hills Drive near West Mallard Creek Road shortly before 4 p.m. and found Newberry with a gunshot wound in front of a house.

MEDIC took Newberry to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries.
This was just minutes before school buses dropped children of in that neighborhood. One girl told Channel 9 she had just gotten off home when she heard someone yell to get inside. Other neighbors couldn’t believe the crime happened so close to them."
“I saw them they were carrying a person and they were trying to resuscitate him,” resident Mushharie Azaz said. "I have a daughter here and to see a thing like that. It was the first time I’ve seen that in this neighborhood, and I’ve been here about four years.”

Officers said they were questioning three people, and neighbors should not be concerned.
Police said they first encountered Jenkins at the scene when officers arrived to investigate the shooting. He was interviewed by investigators and later arrested and charged.
Officers also determined that Jenkins and Newberry knew each other before the shooting.
“It’s a very peaceful neighborhood, very peacefully neighborhood,” Azaz said. “I hope it won’t repeat again. Let’s pray and hope for a better future.”
