CHARLOTTE — A man has died after crashing his vehicle into a tree in east Charlotte early Sunday morning.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the single-vehicle collision occurred just after 3 a.m. on North Sharon Amity Road.
Police said 31-year-old Yeferson Orozco Velasquez was speeding when his vehicle left the road and struck a tree in the center median.
He died at the scene, according to reports.
Police later determined Velasquez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
It is unknown whether or not he was impaired, according to reports.
Police said the investigation into this crash is active and ongoing.
