BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A man died Sunday when he crashed his dirt bike during a motocross event in Burke County, deputies said.
Authorities responded to a reported death at the Lost Valley Motorsports Park along Hoyle Farm Road in Connelly Springs.
A witness said the man who died, identified as 27-year-old Samuel Ryan Marti, was trying to make one of the jumps and went about 20 feet in the air before landing on his front tire and going over the handlebars.

The witness said the victim didn’t move again. The person said first responders were on scene within seconds and started CPR on Marti.
According to a police report, Marti was a staff sergeant at Pope Air Force Base in Cumberland County.
