CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A man is dead and a firefighter was hurt after a fire at a mobile home in Catawba County on Monday afternoon.
Four different fire departments from Catawba and Lincoln counties responded just after 2 p.m. to the fire near Ledford Road, which is south of Hickory.
Investigators said someone driving by the mobile home spotted the flames. Eyewitnesses told Channel 9′s Dave Faherty that when they got there, flames were coming out the back of the mobile home.

Deputies said firefighters pulled a man out from inside the home, but he died at the scene. His name has not been released.
A firefighter from the Mountainview area was hurt when he fell through the floor into a crawl space under the home while fighting the flames, officials said. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials are still working to determine what started the fire and how the man died. They believe the blaze may have started in a bedroom.
Neighbors said the man who lived at the home was in his 60s and was in the process of moving out. Many of them were in disbelief that this happened days before Christmas.
No other details have been released at this point.
