CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — We have new information on a murder investigation in Catawba County where deputies were called to a home south of Hickory on Christmas night.
According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a disturbance at a home on Mountain Grove Road around 10:30 p.m.
Responding officers said they found a man and a woman, 46-year-old Candy Annette Stacks, badly beaten with critical injuries.

Deputies said both victims were taken to an area hospital, where Stacks later died. The second victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Police said they arrested 32-year-old Brent Allen Dingess at the scene.
He was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder, according to deputies.
Investigators are still working to determine the motive, but tell Channel 9 that Stacks and the other victim lived at the home.
