MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Neighbors in Rowan County described where they live as quiet and peaceful.
They thought everyone got along and were surprised to learn a feud cost a woman her life.
Deputies say that 27-year-old Jaylene Ty’rese White fired the shots that took the life of Sarah Sharp and wounded Joshua Obugene.
“It’s just a peaceful neighborhood, would never have thought anything like that would happen here,” said neighbor, Scott Kovar.
The shooting took place in the 1400 block of Oak Breeze Drive in Mooresville.
Officers responded to the scene around 8:30 pm. Friday night. Upon arrival, they located Sharp, who was unresponsive with at least one gunshot wound, and Obugene, who had multiple gunshot wounds.
“I knew both the guys and like I said before, they was always nice fellas,” Kovar said. “Never had a problem with either one of them.”
Investigators say the parties knew each other and that there was a long simmering feud between them.
Both the victims were 38-years-old. Neighbors want to know what the feud was about.
“I think people need to step back before they just reach for a gun and settle things,” said Kovar.
Obugene is in the hospital, but there’s no word on his condition.
White was arrested at a nearby residence and taken into custody. He’s charged with murder and attempted first-degree murder.
He’s being held in the Rowan County Jail under no bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
