CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department charged Robert A. Thorne, 38, with rape, kidnapping, assault on a female and interference with emergency communications. Thorne was arrested Friday morning by the Rock Hill Police Department.
Police charged Thorne with second degree forcible rape and second degree kidnapping.
Thorne is expected to appear in court on Monday at 1 p.m.
A 24-year-old woman was walking from the area of North Tryon and 26th streets on July 27, when Thorne allegedly offered her a ride, CMPD said in a news release. Instead of taking her home, Thorne drove to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her. He then left the victim in the 400 block of West 24th Street.
“We are looking into other cases to see if he's related. At this time, he's only being charged with the case from the 27th of this month,” Sgt. Allie Rooks said at the news conference.
