Man arrested, charged with hit-and-run that left pedestrian critically injured

MONROE, N.C. — Monroe Police have arrested Lazaurus Cunningham in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left a pedestrian critically injured on Jan. 22.

The incident occurred around 7:28 a.m. on W. Roosevelt Boulevard when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. The victim was found lying in the median and was transported to a Charlotte-area hospital where they remain in critical condition.

Cunningham, 38, of Monroe, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with felony hit-and-run causing serious injury or death. He was processed into the Union County Detention Center and has since been released.
