CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte couple was tied up by a man who tricked them into opening the door.
Police said Demario Jenkins knocked on the couple’s door on Marble Street in west Charlotte and said he hit their car, and then forced his way into the home at gunpoint.
"That's when he said, ‘Turn around,’ and he wanted to tie me up,” Williams said. “Then he tied my face up and tied my arms up."
Jenkins was arrested Thursday and was charged with attempted armed robbery, kidnapping and a host of other charges.
The victim, 56-year-old Karen Williams, has been living in fear ever since the incident in February.
"I'm thinking that, ‘I'm dead,’ so I'm thinking, ‘OK, this is my last day,” Williams said.
Williams said she is thankful police were able to make an arrest, but she will never forget being tied up and paraded around from room to room as the suspect demanded money she didn't have.
"He said, ‘Is that my truck?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘I hit it,’ so I immediately opened up the door to see what was going on,” Williams said. “Then, he came in and pushed his way in with a gun. He kept saying, ‘Where’s the money? Where’s the money?"
Williams said she plans to get a gun, but until then, she takes a large stick with her everywhere she goes.
"I went into a sweat, so every night I come home, I'm afraid,” Williams said.
Jenkins was in court on Friday. He is being held in jail on a $100,000 bond.
