STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — Richard Huneycutt has been arrested after being accused of altering the last will and testament of Alan Jarvis Harwood, according to the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said after Harwood’s death, Huneycutt took possession of his home and multiple vehicles illegally.

On Oct. 20, multiple search warrants were issued for Huneycutt, and he was later arrested.

He has been charged with felony larceny, larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, uttering a forged instrument, common law forgery, obtaining property under false pretenses, and forgery of deeds and wills, according to deputies.

Channel 9′s Genevieve Curtis learned Tuesday that Huneycutt created a fake will and forged the name of an acquaintance. Harwood passed away in April from health issues. Investigators said he lived alone in a home in New London and didn’t have any family.

Huneycutt filed the fraudulent will with the court and he then took Harwood’s entire estate worth $360,000. It included 10 vehicles. He also took Harwood’s home, police say.

Police told Curtis they are looking into other cases Honeycutt may be tied to.

Huneycutt is currently being held at the Stanly County jail under a $1.7 million secured bond because he was already out on bond on other charges, including one related to a child sex offense case.. His first court date is expected to occur on Nov. 6.

Deputies said the investigation into this incident is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
