RANLO, N.C. — Federal agents captured a man days after he escaped police custody in Ranlo and had been on the run.

Police said Juan Sebastian Cardona seemed to be "living the life of a spy" in Ranlo, driving a Ford Mustang made for drag racing with covered-up bullet holes.

Cardona, who is a former member of the Colombian military, may be connected to some criminal organization, police said.

On Wednesday night, federal agents found Cardona in a motel in Duluth, Georgia and arrested him.

Earlier in the week, officers responded to his home in Ranlo after neighbors complained about him shooting at the house.

They said they found six or seven real-looking fake state driver's licenses, four Social Security cards, thousands of dollars in cash and weapons inside his home.

Officials said Cardona was armed better than some police departments.

Police had Cardona in a patrol car Tuesday morning but said he managed to unlock the car with his bare feet and open the door.

They believe he got a ride and managed to escape a massive manhunt.

Police said Cardona has been able to steal more than $2 million by tapping into bank accounts.

Ranlo Police Department Chief Tim Anderson said the people he stole from “may not be able to pay their power bills or buy their kids something to eat.”

Investigators believe Cardona has several other IDs and may have tapped into other bank accounts.

He lived in the Ranlo neighborhood for just a few months. Neighbors said he kept to himself, but they often heard gunshots coming from his home, like it was a gun range.

"It's just, it's like a movie," one neighbor said. "This, now, really has me concerned."
