CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — Police arrested a 20-year-old man who they said shot and killed his stepfather Monday night in Cleveland County.
According to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 7 p.m. to a home on Chambwood Lane off of Beaver Dam Church Road, near Boiling Springs.
When they arrived, investigators found Orlando Daniels, 36, lying in the driveway. They said he had been shot multiple times.
Paramedics took Daniels to the hospital, where he died.
Investigators said they believe Daniels’ stepson, 20-year-old Davajiha Hoey, fired the fatal shots.
Hoey was arrested Tuesday night in Gaffney, South Carolina.
Channel 9 obtained the chilling 911 call.
Officials said Hoey was released from prison four months ago on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was back in court Wednesday, accused of killing his stepfather.
Maj. Durwin Briscoe, with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, it is a hard blow to the family.
"Here you have a family that has lost a father, as well as a son and a brother,” Briscoe said.
On Wednesday, a judge ordered Hoey be held without bond.
A neighbor told Channel 9's Ken Lemon that hours before the deadly shooting Hoey went to his home asking for a ride, claiming he needed to rob someone or do something to make money.
The neighbor was shocked when Lemon told him that Hoey had been accused of killing his stepfather the same day.
Investigators said Hoey went to his mother's home asking to use a car and when she said no, he started arguing with family members. Daniels told him to leave and Hoey allegedly shot him moments later.

“This is a senseless, cowardly murder committed by a 20-year-old punk. He shot his unarmed stepfather several times in front of their family members. He robbed his own mother of her husband and his own sister of her dad,” said Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman.
Hoey's mother prayed as she talked to dispatchers.
"My babies are going crazy because they daddy has been shot,” the caller said. “In the name of Jesus. In the name of Jesus."
Hoey's mother said her husband stopped breathing and she feared the worst.
"Ma'am my son is on parole. He just killed my husband,” she said.
Hoey was arrested in Gaffney Tuesday night and decided not to fight extradition.
Officials said Hoey was released from jail in June after a parole violation.
He has a prior conviction for drug charges and breaking and entering.
"For a 20-year-old, he has spent a lot of time in jail and prison. We are going to send him back there for a long, long time. It is inconceivable how someone can destroy the lives of so many family members with one senseless, selfish act," Norman said.
