GREENSBORO, N.C. — A procession to escort Officer Michael Horan’s body to Greensboro took place Friday.
Officer Horan was shot and killed inside of a Food Lion just two days before Christmas.
Tarell Isaac McMillian, the man accused of killing Horan, faced a judge for the first time Thursday. He appeared via video monitor for his hearing.
The Greensboro Police Department said McMillian, 34, is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of felony flee to allude.
He tried to speak at the end of the roughly four-minute court proceeding, but he was cut off.
District Court Judge Michelle Fletcher read McMillian the charges he faces and the maximum punishment.
“The maximum punishment you can face on that if you were convicted is the death penalty and or life in prison without parole,” Judge Fletcher said.
McMillian’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 20.
Horan was hired by GPD in September 2017.
A fundraiser has been set up to help Horan’s family. You can donate at this link.
