CHARLOTTE — A longtime staple in the NoDa neighborhood has been honored as one of the “Best Classic Restaurants” in the country.
“Food and Wine” magazine compiled a list of 250 restaurants nationwide, and one of them was Brooks’ Sandwich House.
It highlighted the shop's popular menu items, such as its chili, burgers and liver mush sandwiches.
Brooks is set to reopen next month after a gunman shot and killed co-owner Scott Brooks.
He was trying to open the restaurant for breakfast early in the morning on Dec. 9 when two masked suspects tried to rob him.
Police and the FBI are offering a reward of up to $21,000 for information leading to an arrest.
The restaurant is set to open on Feb. 1 and will no longer open for breakfast.
Instead, employees will arrive at the shop at 9 a.m. and open their doors at 10 a.m.
