MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Lowe’s Cos. Inc. is making pets a bigger part of its growth strategy.
The Mooresville-based retailer is expanding its partnership with Petco Health + Wellness Co. Inc. to 300 stores, up from 15 currently.
Lowe’s first announced that store-in-store pilot program in January 2022, creating a one-stop shop for home improvement projects, pet supplies, and veterinary care. An estimated 70% of U.S. households currently have at least one pet.
The pilot program resonated with existing customers while introducing new customers to Lowe’s, says Bill Boltz, executive vice president of merchandising. The expansion will focus on rural communities across the country.
