MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Lowe’s Cos. Inc. is celebrating its centennial by giving back.
The Mooresville-based home-improvement giant has committed $10 million to a new initiative, called 100 Hometowns.
Plans call for Lowe’s to complete 100 impact projects this year across communities the retailer serves. The goal is to restore hometowns that have fallen on hard times, reignite overlooked neighborhoods from a cultural standpoint beautify forgotten spaces, rebuild areas impacted by natural disaster as well as complete critical housing repairs, says CEO Marvin Ellison.

Lowe’s got its start as a single, small-town hardware store in Wilkesboro. It now has more than 2,200 home improvement and hardware stores and employs over 300,000.
