Lowe’s exec talks accelerated plans to add pickup lockers for online orders

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lowe’s Cos. Inc. has ramped up its plans for contactless order fulfillment across its U.S. stores.

The Mooresville-based home improvement giant has added self-service pickup lockers near the front of 50 stores to date, including those in Charlotte, Philadelphia and the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

It expects to have lockers available in most metro markets by Thanksgiving, with that option at more than 1,700 stores by March. That’s roughly a year ahead of initial plans, says Joe McFarland, Lowe’s executive vice president of stores.

“We’ve been addressing fulfillment for some time. It’s been part of our online road map,” McFarland says.
