‘Loved like his own child’: Retired K-9 of fallen Mooresville Officer Jordan Sheldon dies

MOORESVILLE, N.C — The retired K-9 of fallen Mooresville Police Officer Jordan Sheldon has died, according to the organization, Sheldon’s K9s, Facebook post.

Loki had been with the Mooresville Police Department from 2012 to 2017, and was assigned to Sheldon in 2015.

Sheldon, a six-year department veteran, was shot and killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop in 2019.

After Sheldon’s death, his family brought Loki and Sheldon’s personal dog Rampage to their childhood home, where Loki lived out his days. The organization said Loki died Saturday surrounded by his family.

Sheldon’s K9s said Loki was known for being difficult at the police department, but Sheldon took the time to work with him and train him.

“His family remembers Jordan saying that he wanted to give Loki the chance to just be a dog and the rest would fall into place. And it certainly did. Jordan’s commitment and care for Loki transformed him into an entirely different dog with a sweet and unfailingly loyal demeanor,” the Facebook said.

The organization covered Loki’s vet and food bills after Sheldon’s death. Sheldon’s K9s said it was Sheldon’s dream that an organization would help retired dogs.

“The family would like to thank the following for their love and care of Loki throughout his life: Mooresville Police Department K9 Unit, Lori and Denisa of Fuzzy Faces Grooming in Midland, Dr. Sophia Catania and Hillery Rosendall of Greenock Farm Veterinary Hospital, and Hartsell Funeral Home,” the Facebook post said. “Our only hope in this incredibly sad time is that Loki was greeted at the gates of Heaven by Jordan with open arms.”
