CHARLOTTE — A long-standing Plaza Midwood restaurant reopened this week after a more than three-month hiatus.
Dish, at 1220 Thomas St., closed in mid-January after a planned inspection from the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal. Owner Amanda Cranford said during the inspection, the fire marshal found several items that were already scheduled for repair and shut down the restaurant in the middle of a lunch rush.
Cranford said when Dish — which has been a Southern comfort-food staple in the neighborhood for more than 20 years — closed, she was certain they’d be serving customers again in a matter of days. She was eventually told the entire hood vent and exhaust system no longer met code and needed replacing. That led to permits being pulled for other parts of the building and additional repair work.
“It’s a really old building, and (the previous owners) never really did a lot of upgrading to the system that probably dated back to the 1950s or 1960s,” she said.
