Long lines, rapid test shortages plague some NC mountain counties

MORGANTON, N.C. — Long lines of cars for COVID-19 testing and a shortage of rapid tests are issues that affect more communities than those in and around Charlotte.

Several people waited for hours in a line Friday morning to get tested for COVID-19 in Catawba County.

In Morganton, the Burke County Health Department said it has run out of rapid antigen tests. Workers told Channel 9 they haven’t had the rapid tests for weeks and they don’t know when the state will provide more.

>>In the video at the top of the page, reporter Dave Faherty says the wait time for test results in Morganton is now reaching three to five days.

One mom brought food and drinks for her kids as they waited to be tested.

“Today I saw it out on the road and I was like ‘Oh my god, it was not this bad yesterday,’” Heather Braswell said. “We were here an hour earlier than yesterday. This is way worse than I expected.”
