CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The long-awaited Ten Tryon project that was set to break ground next quarter has been suspended. The move comes during an economic plummet and mounting uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ten Tryon, at North Tryon and Ninth streets in uptown Charlotte, was set to include a 15-story, 215,000-square-foot building with 175,000 square feet of office space and a Publix grocery store on the ground floor.

Armada Hoffler Properties Inc. said last week it was deferring several real estate projects, including Ten Tryon, “until economic conditions normalize,” said Louis Haddad, the company’s president and CEO, in a statement.
