Reported armed person at school prompts Levine Jewish Community Center lockdown

CHARLOTTE — If you saw police near the Levine Jewish Community Center Thursday afternoon, it’s because the place went into a brief lockdown.

The JCC said Shalom Park security and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were called to handle an “isolated incident” around 5 p.m. that day. The community is located along Providence Road.

On Friday, police said they had been responding to reports of someone armed on a school campus. They confirmed it happened outside of school hours.

Police said officers searched the area for a suspect but no arrests have been made at this time.

The JCC lockdown lasted about 45 minutes before it returned to normal operations.

There’s no active threat to the community, CMPD said.
