Local restaurant owner opens up about struggles to keep business alive amid ongoing pandemic

CHARLOTTE — In 2021, restaurant owners across Charlotte saw major staffing shortages and rising costs.

Going into 2022, the problem hasn’t gone away.

The owner and chef of University City restaurant Quidley’s Delight, Omar Quidley, knows the struggle well.

He’s made some major changes over the last year to adjust.

Currently, he’s wearing all hats at the Caribbean restaurant, as the only employee.

“In the last six months to a year, we’re finding a lot of people don’t want to come and work in a restaurant,” Quidley said.

>> In the video at the top of the page, Quidley explains how he’s working to keep the business he loves alive while weathering the ongoing pandemic.
