CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A Catawba County man was arrested Sunday after leading deputies on a vehicle chase through several counties and stealing two cars, authorities said.

Officials said Keith Allen Willis Jr., 39, stole a truck from a business in Hickory on Friday. He then went to a gas station in the town of Catawba and tried to steal another vehicle from a man in the parking lot. He fought with the man and ran away before authorities got there, deputies said.

Sunday morning, Willis, armed with a knife, stole a vehicle from a woman at a gas station near Oxford School Road and Interstate 40.

Once investigators determined Willis as a suspect, deputies said they found him driving the stolen vehicle on Springs Road. Authorities chased Willis into Alexander County, where he was arrested.

Deputies in Catawba County charged Willis with robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, felony fleeing to elude arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of stolen goods.

Police in Hickory charged Willis with larceny of a motor vehicle.

No other details have been released at this point.
