Local malls follow strict guidelines to help prevent spread of COVID-19 after reopening

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — Saturday is North Carolina’s first full day in Phase 1 of Gov. Roy Coopers reopening plans and some stores are choosing to reopen with some very strict guidelines.

Channel 9 went to several local malls including Concord Mills, SouthPark Mall and the Premium Outlets, and saw that a lot of stores did not open.

At the outlets, only about 15 stores opened out of more than 100. The general manager of SouthPark Mall, Randy Thomas, said he estimates only 40 out of 140 stores opened Saturday morning.

“Some stores are requiring masks. Some stores are limiting visitors to two or three at a time and that’s it,” said Thomas.
