UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Saturday was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and people in Union County went all out to show their support.

Dozens joined the caravan of cars, complete with a law enforcement escort.

They traveled from Indian Trail to Kings Mountain where they honored former Mount Holly Police Officer Tyler Herndon. He was shot and killed in the line of duty in December.

Organizers told Channel 9 that law enforcement officers need support now more than ever.

“We heard our police officers really need some loving right now. We’ve had three shot. We’ve had two fall in the line of duty in the last couple of months. We felt it was really time to step up and give our police some love,” said organizer Jennifer Willett.

The caravan returned to Indian Trail where there was a fundraiser for Kings Mountain Corporal Frank Whittington Jr. He was shot last month and survived.

Members of the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office were treated to a free meal on this Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. They said they aree blessed to have local businesses and community members who support them.
