Local cities hold remembrance ceremonies honoring 9/11 victims

Many cities in the Charlotte region are coming together in remembrance of 9/11.

Tuesday marks 17 years since the terror attacks that left nearly 3,000 people dead.

Here is a list of local ceremonies:

    • Ebenezer third graders are hosting a breakfast to thank community first responders.
    • Independence is holding a school-wide service project. The school will be providing local active and inactive military personnel, police officers, firefighters, and EMS workers with snacks and goodie bags created after a school-wide donation drive.
  • Concord - Patriots Day Remembrance Ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. at Fire Station 8 on Old Charlotte Road.
    • The ceremony will take place at the Fire Station's 9/11 monument.
  • Gastonia - The Gastonia Fire Department will be holding two memorial services. One will be held at Fire Station 1 on N. Myrtle School Road and the second will be held at Station 4 on Armstrong Park Road. The services will start at 9 a.m.
    • The blood drive will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 7 p.m. in the Paddock Club in the speedway's infield.
    • The event will start with an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on the Avenue of Flags by the speedway's ticket office.
    • The kick-off event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 837 Wilcrest Court.
