CHARLOTTE — Hundreds of Queen City families have a head start on the upcoming school year thanks to a local church.
The Northeast SDA Church hosted the back-to-school bash at their building on Tom Hunter Road on Sunday.

In addition to the dozens of backpacks given away to students, organizers also gave away hundreds of pairs of sneakers, free haircuts, food, and even routine dental and medical exams.
Daryl Williams, an elder at the Northeast SDA church, told Channel 9 the church has been a part of the community for about three decades and is happy to help its community during difficult times.
“We are providing whatever we can; we know in these times things can be hard,” Williams said.
According to organizers, similar events have been hosted over the past five years.
