Local chef to bring upscale lounge, speakeasy to downtown Rock Hill

CHARLOTTE — Chef Rob Masone is adding a speakeasy to his resume.

Kounter Lounge is targeting a spring 2024 opening at 135 E. Main St. in Rock Hill, with construction set to begin in October.

That two-story, 3,000-square-foot space is currently occupied by Edward Jones. The 22,020-square-foot building dates to 1901, and is where the “Friendship Nine” sit-in took place in 1961.

The lounge will be neighbors with Masone’s Kounter, which dishes up interactive, inspired cuisine with a focus on farm-to-table ingredients. He’s also behind Kre8 Xperiences, a full-service events and catering company that operates food truck Twisted Eats.
