CHARLOTTE — In Charlotte, we are seeing tremendous support for Ukraine.
Friday night, several buildings on the Charlotte skyline were lit up in yellow and blue.
Channel 9 also saw the community come together in a peaceful demonstration protesting the war while comforting one another as many worried about the safety of their loved ones.
Saturday, the leader of the Ukrainian Catholic Church for North Carolina shared his thoughts on the crisis, as well as the role the church plays in the situation.
“Church is all of us. Church is with the people. If they are suffering, the church is suffering,” Bishop Bohdan Danylo said.
Bishop Bohdan said many church leaders in Ukraine are holding services in basements to keep people safe.
Bishop Bohdan also asked for the City of Charlotte to pray for Ukrainians, who he said have many of the same values as Americans.
“The people of Ukraine are people of peace. They enjoy and love life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The foundation of our nation,” Bishop Bohdan said.
Bishop Bohdan said a special prayer service will be held at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Saturday night and Sunday morning.
