Local barber hosts back-to-school cookout to prep students for upcoming school year

CHARLOTTE — A Queen City barber is using his money to help students prepare for the upcoming school year.

Mark Anthony, owner of Anthony’s Barber Shop off Arrowood Road, has been hosting an annual back-to-school cookout even for years now.

Not only does he grill burgers and hot dogs, but Anthony also hands out bookbags, school supplies, and snacks to students in need.

“It does a lot for my heart, to see kids that are underprivileged walk away with something that they probably wouldn’t have for school, knowing that I made an impact on their life for the next school year, it means a lot,” Anthony told Channel 9.

Saturday’s cookout was the 13th year Anthony has hosted the event.
