Livingstone College plans to renovate dorms

SALISBURY, N.C. — The administration at Livingston College said dorm renovations will begin in a few months.

In January, some students complained on social media about conditions in a female residence hall.

Since then, college staff said a water heater was replaced, and inspections found no evidence of pathogenic or infectious mold.

The new college president who started last fall told Channel 9 that even prior to that incident, his plan to upgrade facilities was in motion.

They have now secured funding for the renovations.

“Now we have $7 million to begin campus refurbishment not next year, but at the end of this academic semester,” President Anthony J. Davis said. “So, our incoming freshmen class will be able to move into spaces that they are comfortable with.”

Work is set to begin this summer and there isn’t a completion date yet.

Davis said each year $4 million of Livingstone’s $6 million endowment goes to student scholarships and grants, which is why sometimes buildings are last on the list.
