Lipstick sales are up as masks come down, report says

Off go the masks and on comes the lipstick.

Many in the cosmetic industry are happy about that but like other businesses, the coronavirus pandemic deeply affected the industry.

Mask-wearing put a near-halt on lipstick purchases until now, according to the latest figures from a group that tracks data for retailers.

In the past four weeks, lipstick sales hit $34.2 million, which is more than 80% more than the same period last year.

Sales are not quite where they were before the pandemic, but Walmart is not complaining.

The nation’s biggest retailer told CNN that lipstick is currently the top performer across all segments of cosmetics.
