LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Lincoln County commissioners unanimously voted to take gun laws into their own hands and become a 2nd Amendment sanctuary, which means county officials would refuse to enforce any new restrictions on gun ownership.
“I love this country, and I hate what’s going on now,” U.S. military veteran Ross Scoville said.
Scoville was part of a packed house Monday night at the county commission meeting.
“The board of commissioners hereby declares Lincoln County, North Carolina, as a 2nd Amendment sanctuary,” Commissioner Bud Cesena said.

There were applauds after the resolution was passed. The one dissenting voice was that of Vice Chairman Richard Permerter.
"I generally oppose meaningless resolutions,” Permerter said.
“Given today’s times and what we’re going through, this is not a useless resolution,” Commissioner Anita McCall said. “I support it wholeheartedly.”
More than 3,000 people signed a petition supporting the resolution.
“I can’t ignore the fact that these are intelligent people who have good opinions and sometimes if I’m the odd man out, I have to ask, ‘Why?’” Permerter said.
