LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputy died Sunday after crashing his motorcycle.

Investigators said 41-year-old Jamie Lavar Jackson was riding his motorcycle on Wilma Sigmon Road in Lincolnton when he lost control and hit a stopped vehicle just before 3 p.m.

Jackson was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The flag was lowered to half-staff Monday outside the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Fellow officers were wearing black bands over their badges to remember the father of three.

“We’re at a loss,” said Lt. Justin Frye, who worked with Jackson closely.

Frye said Jackson had been sick, but he’s not sure if that played a role in the crash.

Frye said Jackson worked in patrol and narcotics in both Lincoln and Catawba counties.

“He enjoyed serving. He enjoyed the military and he enjoyed the brotherhood of it,“ he said.

The sheriff said it's how Jackson lived his life and the impact he had in others they’ll remember the most.

“He always made good arrests and was just a most likable amiable person. You can tell he’s got a good family because of the way he treated other people. He treated other people with dignity and respect,” Sheriff Bill Beam said.

Jackson was hired as a patrol deputy in 2013.

The sheriff said an autopsy is planned to see if a medical condition possibly led to his fatal accident.
