Lincoln County Animal Shelter

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Lincoln County administrators have fired the animal shelter director, the third time the head of the department has been replaced in just over a year, according to Channel 9’s partners at the Gaston Gazette.

The county manager said that Taylor Sumansky was fired because of poor job performance.

Channel 9 uncovered documents that show from March to October of last year, a total of 216 cats and dogs were found dead in their kennels.

The shelter was fined $75,000.

Leaders said the deaths were the result of a respiratory disease that spread throughout the shelter.
