LENOIR, NC — The Lenoir Police Department says it is investigating after a handwritten threat was found in a bathroom at Hibriten High School.
The note was found Thursday in a male restroom. Officers spent the night searching the school and classes were held Friday.
Police and school officials remind students that making a threat of violence towards a school is a felony.
“Threats of any kind and possession of weapons of any type will not be tolerated,” said Superintendent Dr. Steve Stone. “All threats, even ones that are casually said or passed off as a prank, will be immediately investigated and prosecuted aggressively.”
School officials said extra police officers were on hand at Hibriten High Friday and the school was operating in a "soft lockdown" status, meaning all outside activity is suspended and exterior and classroom doors remain locked.
