Legion Brewing ready for debut of South End venue

Trolley Barn Fermentory & Food Hall (MELISSA KEY/CBJ)

CHARLOTTE — The Trolley Barn Fermentory & Food Hall is gearing up to welcome its first guests.

That location could open next week — though timing depends on when its ABC permit is received, says Phil Buchy, founder of Legion Brewing.

The fermentory — the third location for Legion — is located in Atherton Mill’s historic trolley barn, at 2104 South Blvd. The 11,400-square-foot space has been adapted to include a second-floor mezzanine and two patios with views of uptown.

Buchy says he wasn’t looking to grow Legion’s footprint when Atherton Mill owner Edens reached out to him. He immediately saw the potential for the space.

“South End is one of the most vibrant neighborhoods and communities in Charlotte,” Buchy says. “Atherton Mill has such as deep history to it. It was exciting to think what we could do there.”

The fermentory brings a brewery, taproom and cocktail program as well as three food stalls under one roof.
