CHARLOTTE — Months after Hurricane Helene, some in western North Carolina are still navigating red tape to get disaster recovery money -- Legal Aid of North Carolina is offering pro bono help to those in need.
Legal Aid is hosting five “disaster recovery clinics” over the next few weeks in communities that were hit hard by Helene. Staffers and attorneys will be able to open cases for assistance with government agencies, insurance companies, banks, landlords, and other legal issues related to the hurricane recovery.
“From FEMA appeals to insurance disputes, mortgage issues, and more, Legal Aid provides compassion and expertise to those who need it,” Legal Aid of NC CEO Ashley Campbell said in a statement.
The clinics will take walk-ins, but Legal Aid says registration on their website is preferred.
