CHARLOTTE — Vice President Tami Simmons is the head of the fundraising arm at Johnson C. Smith University and is often charged with marketing the value of the historically Black college and university (HBCU).

“It’s unfortunate that it took an experience that really traumatized our nation to bring us all together, and so you see folks who might not have historically given to HBCUs wanting to seek out opportunities to do so,” Simmons said.
