Layoffs loom after Southeast Anesthesiology loses Atrium Health contract

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Local layoffs appear to be looming after a longtime Charlotte anesthesiology practice lost a recent battle to keep its contract with Atrium Health.

Florida-based Mednax — the parent of Charlotte-based Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants — has filed notice that more than 150 of its employees working in several local Atrium Health facilities could lose their jobs by Aug. 31 after the two parties failed to reach an agreement for continuing services. The layoff letter to the state, sent by Mednax Vice President of Operations Trey Long, said those job cuts will commence unless "impacted employees accept or continue their employment with our organization."
