The nation's largest student loan provider is being hit with a massive lawsuit.
Action 9 reporter Jason Stoogenke explains what this means for millions of Americans who have student loans.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau filed the lawsuit Wednesday.
It claims Navient which was part of Sallie Mae created obstacles which made it harder for tens of thousands of borrowers to pay back the money
The lawsuit said Navient provided incorrect payment information, processed payments incorrectly and failed to act when borrowers complained.
The company is also accused of cheating many struggling borrowers out of their rights to lower payments, so they had to pay much more than they had to for their loans.
Navient handles loans for more than 12 million customers.
