CHARLOTTE — The family that owns a landmark restaurant in NoDa is making changes to keep its employees safe weeks after someone murdered co-owner Scott Brooks when he arrived to work early in the morning.
The Brooks Sandwich House will reopen Feb. 1, but will no longer serve breakfast so employees will not be there when it’s dark.
Police said two masked suspects tried to rob Scott Brooks at about 5 a.m. on Dec. 9. One of them had a gun and killed him.

Brooks’ family asked the community to please be respectful when the shop reopens.
“The fact that Scott was murdered here is very hard for us to come back here and be here without him,” Scott Brooks’ brother, Chip Brooks, said.
They are planning to add a mural of Scott Brooks on the back of the sandwich house.
The family also thanked everyone in the community who has supported them over the years and through the tragedy.
Police have not made any arrests in the case.
