LAKE NORMAN, N.C. — There was a big celebration this weekend for a special Lake Norman Little League baseball team after they became North Carolina’s 2021 state champions.
“It feels great to win a state championship,” said Cameron Malone, the team’s shortstop. “It’s not like any other championship. I couldn’t believe it -- it was a great moment.”
The Lake Norman Lightning won the state’s championship (ages 8-9) on Friday against a team from Wilson.
“We knew at the beginning of the season we’re all stars,” said the team’s coach, Andy Davies. “We had a special group of kids, families. Three things we always tell them is have fun, work together as a team and try your best.”
The Lightning won their final game, 12-6.
