LAKE JAMES — Firefighters near Lake James are trying to figure out what sparked a quick-moving wildfire that has burned 100 acres.
Eyewitness News reporter Dave Faherty was on the front lines with dozens of firefighters battling flames and very dry conditions.
The fire is burning in the North Point neighborhood near Lake James.
The North Carolina Forest Service set backfires in hopes of blackening an area ahead of the main fire.

The hope there is to use the streets through the neighborhood as fire lines to keep the fire in check.
One of the closest homes belongs to one of the firefighters, Paul Thompson.
He works for North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and has cleared much of the land immediately around his home for situations just like this.
"I've got a big green yard a pretty good ways around the house,” Thompson said. “Anytime you build and you're going to be joining thousands of acres of national forest, you got to keep wildfires in mind."
The U.S. Forest Service is also helping fight the fire near Lake James.
