KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — A major hurdle for the Catawba Indian Nation’s $273 million casino project in Kings Mountain has been cleared.
On Friday night, the tribe said it had reached an agreement with state leaders for a Class III gaming compact, which allows high-stakes table games and slot machines at the project.

The agreement, which was approved by Gov. Roy Cooper, will now go to the U.S. Department of the Interior for final approval.
A representative for the tribe told the Charlotte Business Journal the Catawbas do not anticipate any issues on that front.
