KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — A teacher at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis is accused of conspiring to traffic drugs.
The district said Elizabeth Lanier was suspended with pay as officers investigate.
She teaches exceptional children and has been at the school since 2014, officials said.
Police said Lanier went to a neighborhood a week ago with her housemate, Johnathan Mathew Gray.
Investigators said the two wanted to purchase prescription pills from David Ewing and Malik Caldwell.
Investigators said Ewing pulled out a gun and robbed Lanier.
Someone called police and everyone involved was arrested.
There were no injuries.
“That's not something you would commonly hear,” Kannapolis resident Tasheina Patterson said.
Channel 9 asked investigators what Lanier intended to do with the drugs, but they didn't say.
Lanier had her first appearance in court Tuesday and will remain suspended pending the outcome of this case.
