KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — A Kannapolis woman and her four children have been forced out of their apartment after a massive water leak and a roach infestation, she told Channel 9.
Lacree Johnson and her children live in Westgreen Apartments, an affordable housing complex in Kannapolis. They haven’t been able to come home for two weeks, Johnson said.
“To know you the only one that got your kids back and helping them, it’s frustrating. Real frustrating,” Johnson said.
>> In the video at the top of this page, Channel 9 reporter Tina Terry spoke with Johnson about the condition of her apartment and how she hopes her experience will help her neighbors.
HUD Statement: “Westgreen Apartment Complex is privately owned and is the only standalone project Based Section 8 contract with HUD in Kannapolis and it began 09/26/2012.
“The project-based rental assistance makes up the difference between what an extremely low-, low-, or very low-income household can afford and the approved rent for an adequate housing unit in a multifamily project. Eligible tenants must pay the highest of 30 percent of adjusted income, 10 percent of gross income, or the portion of welfare assistance designated for housing or the minimum rent established by HUD.
“Residents are encouraged to first contact their respective property management office for issues associated with their unit. When they believe that those concerns are not being addressed properly and or in a timely fashion they may contact the North Carolina Quadel, HUD’s contractor for such matters for assistance at residentcall@ncquadel.com or by phone at (919) 319-0808 Ext. 2778 or Toll-free in NC at (866) 319-0808 Ext. 2778, and by Fax at (919) 319-9080.”
