CHARLOTTE — A 16-year-old girl is hurt after being shot at an east Charlotte apartment complex Monday morning, police said.
Officers were called at around 6:15 a.m. to an apartment complex on Copper Creek Court, off Albemarle Road near its intersection with Lawyers Road, for the shooting.

Once police got to the scene, they found the teen shot. She was taken to a local hospital for her injuries. MEDIC initially said she had life-threatening injuries, but Charlotte-Mecklenburg police confirmed they were non-life-threatening.
After investigating, authorities learned the victim was shot while walking through the apartment complex. She was not at a bus stop or walking toward a bus stop, according to officials.
CMPD said it has arrested and charged a juvenile for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
“It could have been worse than what it is. God forbid something happened to somebody else’s kid that had nothing to do with it,” neighbor Johnny Lambert said.
Officers said they are still investigating to determine what led to the shooting.

Lambert said the violence was unacceptable and not the first time it had happened. He said back in January, someone fired into his apartment, right next door to Monday’s shooting.
“It’s getting to be really frustrating, almost to the point that I wish, you know, they would just let me out of my lease and let me find something else because it’s getting to the point where it’s too dangerous to even be at home,” Lambert said.
