CHARLOTTE — A man has been arrested after a 2-year-old boy was shot Wednesday night in west Charlotte, police said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were called around 6:30 p.m. to a home on Camp Greene Street. Officers found the toddler with what appeared to be a life-threatening injury, and the boy was taken to Atrium-CMC, CMPD said.

On Thursday, police said they had arrested and charged 25-year-old Devonte Warren.
Police said the child and his family were visiting Warren, who they described as a family friend, when the boy found the gun and fired it, injuring himself. Investigators said Warren owned the gun.
Warren was charged with failing to secure a firearm to protect a minor.
Police said the boy is in stable condition at the hospital.
